In the Name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

·        A brief biography in which is some confusion and editing is in the book Imtaa'u-l-Fudhalaa'y biTaraajimi-l-Qurraa’ 1:295 – 298, the errors of which are corrected here:

·        Full name: The Egyptian then Madeenite Abu-l-Arqam Muhammad ibn Rizq ibn 'Abdu-N-naasir ibn Tarhoony Al-Ka'by As-Sulamy. He belongs to the Arab Tarhoonah (with either a Ø  or a Ê) tribe who migrated from hijaaz, West of the Arabian peninsula, to Egypt and Libya.  Originally they belong to the Ku'oob tribes, the offspring of Ka'b ibn Ahmad, from the tribes of the children of Saleem ibn Mansoor, from Qays 'Eelaan. This is according to 'Umar Kahhaalah in his book Mu'jamu Qabaa'ili-l-'Arab reporting from a number of sources.

·        Social status: Married with two wives, having nine girls and six boys, one of the latter died at birth.

·        He was born in Cairo on the fourth of Rajab, 1379 H, corresponding to the second of January 1960 CE.  He was brought up in a distinguished scholarly family that his father took care of, the latter regarded as one of the great surgeon physicians in Egypt.  His maternal grandfather was Mahmood Hasanayn Sulaymaan Al-Gharbaawy who directed him about religious aspects.

·        He finished his secondary school education in the science division, Section of Mathematics, in the schools of Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt.  He had a tendency for Islamic studies, especially for the noble Qur'aan, in which he achieved the grade of Excellent for outstanding students in the competition for the noble Qur'aan, 1970.

·        After achieving the secondary education certificate with an Excellent grade, he enrolled at the College of Engineering, University of Cairo in 1977.  There he completed the study in two years, in which he paid attention to many Islamic studies disciplines through reading and studying with scholars, especially in hadeeth and its sciences and classification.  In this period, he travelled between Egypt, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Yemen seeking knowledge.  He completed memorising the Qur'aan and paid attention to narrations of recitation and he became able to recite well by way of 'Aasim from the narration of Hafs and the way of Naafi' from the narration of Warsh.  During the third year of his university studies, he wanted to combine between his Islamic studies and his academic specialty by moving to Al-Azhar University but he was unable to do so.  He then decided to travel and migrate to the blessed lands after his heart was overcome with love and attachment for it.

·        He was able to enroll into the College of the noble Qur'aan and Islamic Studies in the Islamic University of Madeenah after he was given reference by the group Ansaaru-S-sunnatu-l-Muhammadiyyah, Supporters of Muhammad's Sunnah, Shaykh 'Aly ibn Musharraf Al-'Umary and others.  Respected Shaykh Ibn Baaz (may Allaah's Mercy be on him) also interceded for him here.  His outstanding academic performance was apparent and he continued to achieve Excellent and first place in his year in all regular and annual examinations until he graduated with this grade in 1405 H achieving the certificates for highest grade and excellence.

·        During this period, he achieved a number of references and certificates of permission to read texts.  One of the most important certificates was the certificate of permission to recite in the seven ways of recitation from the way of Ash-Shaatibiyyah with a continuous chain of transmission to Allaah's Messenger (may Allaah's Blessing and Peace be on him) with respected Shaykh Mahmood ibn 'Abdu-l-Khaaliq Jaadu (may Allaah's Mercy be on him).  He almost completed the three ways of recitations that completed the ten recitations by way of the Durrah and the narration of Hafs from 'Aasim by way of the Shaatibiyyah with respected Shaykh Mahmood ibn Seebawayh Al-Badawy (may Allaah's Mercy be on him).  However, the time of death came upon the Shaykh before completion.  He achieved a certificate of permission to read texts in hadeeth, belief, jurisprudence and other than these from respected Shaykh Humood ibn 'Abd Allaah At-Tuwayjury (may Allaah's Mercy be on him).  Similarly, he achieved the permission to read all narrations of respected Shaykh the Thaahiry Abu 'Abd Ar-Rahmaan ibn 'Aqeel, the Mawsily Dr Hikmat Basheer Yaaseen, Shaykh Abu Uways Muhammad ibn Al-Ameen ibn 'Abd Allaah Abu Khubzah Al-Hasany, Shaykh Musaa'id Al-Basheer, Dr 'Aasim ibn 'Abd Allaah Al-Qaryooty, the Hambaly Ameer Al-Musnad Khaalid ibn Muhammad ibn Ghaanim Aal Thaany At-Tameemy and his son-in-law, the Bukhaarite Shaykh Haamid ibn Ahmad ibn Akram.  He was unable to enroll in postgraduate studies until lately because of his keenness to reside at Madeenah and deciding to never leave it together with being busy with research and writing.  He also decided to enroll in postgraduate studies, Al-Azhar University after advice from his student of knowledge brothers.  His thesis for the Masters was in Commentary of the Qur’aan from reports about the All High’s Words,

until His Words,

in compilation, study and editing.  He achieved the Masters on 17/03/1416 H with the grade of Excellent.  His doctorate thesis was entitled At-Tafseeru wa-l-Mufas-siroon fy Gharby Ifreeqiyaa, Commentary of the Qur’aan and commentators of the Qur’aan in West Africa.  The latter meant Tunisia, Algeria, morocco and Mauritania.  He achieved the doctorate on 01/07/1420 H with the grade of First class.  He has good experience in using computers regarding word usage for a period of fifteen years and he has recent experience about the internet for about four years, this site being designed by him.

·        He underwent many works and took up many jobs, including:

-         Supervising one of the international schools at Madeenah.

-         Participating as a researcher in King Fahd Complex for Printing the Noble Quraan at Madeenah for the Commentary of the Qur’aan section there.

-         Work as a personal teacher for his royal highness Ameer ‘Abd Allaah ibn Faysal ibn Musaa’id ibn S’ood ibn ‘Abd Al-‘Azeez Aal S’ood, may Allaah preserve him.

-         Participation as an educational advisor for the Group for Memorising Qur’aan at Madeenah.

-         Established Al-Khandaq International Schools at Madeenah, prepared all their additional educational programs and worked as an educational and technical consultant for it for a period of two years.

-         Participation as a researcher for the Sunnah and Prophetic Biography Centre that is under King Fahd Complex for Printing the Noble Quraan.

-         Co-operation with King Abd Al-Azeez University, College of Education, Madeenah branch, as a teacher for the subject of Commentary of the Qur’aan for the male student section and the subject of Biography of the Prophet for the female student section and the subject of Introduction to Islamic studies for both sections, for about an academic term.  There was a difference with some people in charge of the college regarding the non-hadeeth methodology in dealing with the Prophet’s biography and there was a decline from continuing teaching.

-         Carried out casting the first idea for establishing an open college for the noble hadeeth and Islamic studies and preparing studies required for it.

-         Holding a number of academic courses by way of the internet applying the idea for the college, including a course in Science of hadeeth, another in Reciting the Qur’aan and a third in explaining some of the Chapter of Striving in Allaah’s path from Bukhaary’s Saheeh.

-         Holding a weekly open meeting through the internet by way of the Paltalk program in answering questioners from various parts of the world, Muslims and sometimes others.  Now this is in its fourth year.

-         Participation in the scientific committee for studying the project for the market of Madeenah and preparing a scholarly research for this.

-         Teaching morals to children of friends especially, including Naayif and Ahmad, sons of Dr Waleed Murshid.

-         Co-operating with the project for the International Madeenah University, which is in preparation, by enrolling people for the subjects of Sciences of the Qur’aan and Commentary of the Qur’aan.

-         Carrying out some lessons and seminars and participating in some newspaper and media articles.

-         Carrying out recording the whole Qur’aan by narration of Hafs from ‘Aasim ibn Abu An-Nujood.

-         Having the Qur’aan read and granting permission to read it to some students of knowledge and scholars as follows:

Shaykhs and students: It is noted that it is not necessary that the thinking and tendencies of the person whose biography this is is that of his Shaykh or students, just as this does not also mean that a person is attributed to the other.  The following that is mentioned is presented according to the way of research methodology:

·        He recited the Qur’aan in Egypt by narration of Hafs from ‘Aasim from Naafi’ from a number of people specialized in this discipline in mosque and house circles.  He also recited with the respected Shaykh of recitors ‘Aamir As-Sayyid ‘Uthmaan (may Allaah’s Mercy be on him) and others.

·        As for the seven methods of reciting by way of ash-Shaatibiyyah, he recited with a group pf Shaykhs at college at Madeenah.  They are Shaykh Mahmood ibn ‘Abd Al-Khaaliq Jaadu (may Allaah’s Mercy be on him), Shaykh ‘Abd Ar-Raafi’ Ridhwaan ‘Aly, Shaykh ‘Abd Al-Hakeem Khaatir and Shaykh ‘Abd Ar-Raaziq ‘Aly Ibraaheem Moosaa.  As for the last three of the ten methods of recitation, he recited with Shaykh Dr Mahmood Seebawayh Al-Badawy and Shaykh ‘Abd Al-Fat-taah As-Sayyid ‘Ajmy Al-Mirsafy (may Allaah’s Mercy be on both).

·        As for outside college, he recited using all seven methods of recitation with Shaykh Mahmood ‘Abd Al-Khaaliq Jaadu (may Allaah’s Mercy be on him) who gave him permission to recite them with continuous chain of transmission.  This was the first and last certificate that the College of the noble Qur’aan endorsed.  He recited the three methods of recitation with the narration of Hafs from ‘Aasim with Shaykh Dr Mahmood Seebawayh (may Allaah’s Mercy be on him) to about the middle of Soorah An-Nisaa’ and this was discontinued because of the Shaykh’s affliction with a detached retina during his review with other Shaykhs of the Madeenah Qur’aan for its first printing.  They then agreed to meet for completing the recitation but death befell him (may Allaah’s Mercy be on him).

·        He studied commentary of the Qur’aan and sciences of the Qur’aan with respected Shaykh Dr ‘Abd Ar-Rahmaan Hawwaas and the Sudanese respected Shaykh Dr ‘Abd Al-‘Azeez Muhammad ‘Uthmaan.

·        As for Qur’aanic script, its study and sciences of the Qur’aan also, he studies these with the Mauritanian respected Shaykh Dr Muhammad ibn Seedy ibn Al-Habeeb.  Regarding the study of counting the number of ‘aayahs, he studied this with Shaykh ‘Abd Ar-Raziq ‘Aly Moosaa.

·        He studied hadeeth and its sciences in the land of Yemen in his first journey to it for this reason.  This study was with Shaykh Muqbil ibn Haady Al-Waadi’y (may Allaah’ Mercy be on him) in the village of Dimaaj at Sa’dah and in Madeenah with respected Shaykh ‘Aly ibn Musharraf Al-‘Umary.  As for when at the college, he studied the jurisprudence of hadeeth and what relates to it of fundamentals with respected Shaykh ‘Awwaad ibn Bilaal Al-‘Awfy and the Jezaany respected Shaykh Dr Ahmad ibn ‘Eesaa.

·        He studied Islamic monotheism and belief with each of respected Shaykh Dr ‘Aly ibn ‘Abd Ar-Rahmaan Al-Huthayfy and the Mauritanian respected Shaykh Dr ‘Abd Allaah ibn Shaykh Muhammad Al-Ameen, as he studied with the latter the subject of misconceptions too.

·        He studied religions, sects and contemporary schools of thought with the Sudanese respected Shaykh Fat-h Ar-Rahmaan ‘Umar Muhammad.

·        He studied the Prophet’s biography and contemporary Islamic history with the Egyptian then Jordanian Dr Jameel ibn ‘Abd Allaah ibn Muhammad.

·        He studied research, librarianship and referencing with Dr ‘Abd Al-Haleem Haashim Muhammad Ash-Shareef.

·        As for the disciplines of language, such as grammar, lexis, eloquence and literature, he studied with a number of specialists of these disciplines in the land of Egypt (may Allaah preserve it).  He was among the students who were called the high grade in it.  In the discipline of critical poetry, he completed this in the secondary stage of education.  He accompanied at university respected Shaykh Mansoor Ramadhaan Mustafa Habeeb who taught him grammar and lexis for a period of four years and he taught him writing too.  He studied some of the discipline of ‘aroodh and rhyme with him outside the college.  As mentioned previously, he achieved the permission to read hadeeth, jurisprudence, belief, treatises of early and modern Imaams of Islaam as well as treatises of Shaykhu-l-Islaam and his student Ibn Al-Qayyim and those of Imaam Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Al-Wahhaab, the books of the Hambaly scholars, from Shaykh Humood ibn ‘Abd Allaah At-Tuwayjury, the Thaahiry respected Shaykh Abu ‘Abd Ar-Rahmaan Muhammad ibn ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd Ar-Rahmaan ibn ‘Aqeel, respected Shaykh Hikmat Basheer Yaaseen and respected Shaykh Abu Khubzah Al-Hasany and others that have been mentioned previously.

·        He met a number of stalwart and eminent scholars of this era, whom he benefited from and from their knowledge.  He did this without accompanying them.  They included his eminence Shaykh ‘Abd Al-‘Azeez ibn ‘Abd Allaah ibn Baaz (may Allaah’s Mercy be on him).  He entered the university from a reference from the latter as previously mentioned.  The Shaykhs also included respected Shaykh ‘Abd Ar-Razzaaq Al-‘Afeefy (may Allaah’s Mercy be on him) and respected Shaykh Al-Albaany (may Allaah’s Mercy be on him).  Among the recitors, he met respected Shaykh ‘Abd Al-Fat-taah Al-Qaadhy and Shaykh ‘Aamir As-Sayyid ‘Uthmaan (may Allaah’s Mercy be on them) and others.  A large group of students of knowledge studied with him, some of which achieved the doctorate and some study at colleges.  For example, and not exclusively, they include:

The Bukhaarite Shaykh ‘Abd Allaah ibn ‘Abd Ar-Raheem, Shaykh Faysal ibn Humood Al-Haydary, Shaykh Haany ibn Ahmad Faqeeh, Shaykh Saalih ibn ‘Aly Ad-Dughaythir, Shaykh Husayn ibn Muhsin Al-Haazimy, the Sudanese Shaykh ‘Aly, Shaykh ‘Abd Ar-Raheem Ar-Raddaady, the Chinese Shaykh Suhayl Qaasim and many others, all inside the Kingdom.  As from outside it from those inviting to Allaah, scholars and students of knowledge, they include Muhammad Sayyid ‘Adly, Shaykh Abu ‘Umar Talaal Malaat Al-Qalamoony, the Azharite Shaykh Ahmad Husayn, Shaykh Haany Faarooqq and Shaykh ‘Abd Al-Ilaah Ad-Dandashy.  From women, these included respected sisters who invite to Allaah, Naadiyah Shamoot and Maajdah Ash-Shahwaan and others.  A group of educated individuals also studied with him inside and outside the Kingdom of physicians, engineers and others.  Respected Shaykh Dr Hamzah Zuhayr Haafith also studied with him some recitation and his royal highness Ameer Sultaan ibn ‘Abd Al-‘Azeez attended three sessions from his Ramadhaan lessons on his book Mawsoo’atu Fadhaa’ily Suwary wa Aayaati-l-Qur’aan, Compendium for the Virtues of Soorahs and Aayahs of the Qur’aan, at his great mosque.  Regarding those he gave permission to read, they are few in being keen to preserve knowledge to be attributed to any person.  For the noble Qur’aan, he gave permission to the Chinese Shaykh Muhammad Yoosuf ibn Maayoon Aan, Shaykh Judge Dr ‘Abd Al-Muhsin ibn Muhammad Al-Qaasim, Imaam of the Sacred Madeenite Mosque and Shaykh Abu ‘Umar Talaal ibn Malaat Al-Qalamoony.  This was also for the good female recitor Um Akram Juwayriyah bint Muhammad Tarhoony.  All these permissions were in the narration of Hafs from ‘Aasim ibn Abu An-Nujood.  Presently, he has reciting with him for permission to recite in the same method of recitation a group.  These include his children ‘Aa’ishah, Hafsah, Sawdah and Al-Miqdaad.  From students of knowledge, these include the Bukhaarite Shaykh ‘Abd Allaah, the Ma’ribite Shaykh Hasan ibn Abu Al-Hasan and Shaykh Waheed Manjaa, may Allaah make it easy for them to finish.

As for in hadeeth, the Thaahiry respected Shaykh Abu ‘Abd Ar-Rahmaan ibn ‘Aqeel asked him for permission to read it, in his humbleness, and he granted him permission in response to his request.  He also granted permission to the Ma’ribite Abu Al-Hasan Mustafaa, the Lebanese Dr Abu Bakr Shahaal, Shaykh Muflih Ar-Rasheedy, Shaykh Abd Ar-Rahmaan ibn Sa’d Ash-Shathry, the Bukhaarite Dr ‘Abd Allaah ibn ‘Abd Ar-Raheem and his son-in-law the Bukhaarite Shaykh Haamid ibn Ahmad, Ameer Al-Musnad ibn Ghaanim Aal Thaany, Shaykh Usaamah Al-‘Umary, Abu ‘Umar Talaal Al-Qalamoony and the Azharite Shaykh Ahmad ibn Husayn.  There were also permissions to read some books specifically for some Shaykhs.  This included Shaykh Aby ‘Abd Allaah ‘Umar ibn Mubayreek ibn Huthayfah Al-Husayny for reading the books of Imaam an-Nawawy and Shaykhs of Islaam Ibn Taymiyah, Ibn Al-Qayyim and Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Al-Wahhaab.  Permission was granted to Abu Qataadah ‘Abd Al-Ilaah Ad-Dandashy and the Algerian Shaykh Abu Al-Baraa’ Naseem for reading Bukhaary’s Saheeh.  As for his scholarly works in the areas of belief, Qur’aan, its sciences, commentary of the Qur’aan, hadeeth, jurisprudence, Prophet’s biography, history, invitation to Allaah, education, Islamic manners, they are as follows:

-         Carried out detailed review of the Raajhy Qur’aan regarding the script, precision and he prepared a detailed report for what important errors he discovered.

-         Participation in reviewing a Qur’aan in Persian script for the International Institute for Islamic Thought in America for sending to Afghanis striving in Allaah’s Path.

-         Participation in reviewing a translation of the meanings of the Qur’aan that is copied from the Madeenah Qur’aan for the mentioned institute.

-         Carried out by appointment from an official party to review written aayahs on the walls of Qubaa’ mosque in the widening project by the custodian of the two sacred mosques.

-         Carried out a number of works for the mentioned international institute to serve commentary of the Qur’aan by reports.  These include:

1.     Narrations of Imaam Maalik in commentary of the Qur’aan, one volume.

2.     Narrations of Ibn Maajah in commentary of the Qur’aan, large volume.

3.     Narrations of Imaam Ahmad in commentary of the Qur’aan, number of volumes in participation with Dr Hikmat Basheer and others.

Important note: This biography presented the good character of the person it described.  As for shortcomings and negative aspects, they should not be mentioned in protection and preservation as the one on whom be Allaah’s Blessing and Peace said,

“All of my Nation are in health except those who show their sins.”

and as a person said,

By Allaah if they knew the evil of my secrets, anyone meeting would have refused to greet me

We ask Allaah to forgive sins and cover defects.  Any person who wishes to follow a person, let the person follow Allaah’s Messenger (may Allaah’s Blessing and Peace be on him).  Praise be to Allaah, Lord of the worlds and may Allaah’s Blessing and Peace be on our Prophet Muhammad, his family and companions.
